I think I’m in favour of Britain remaining in the European Union. I’m pretty sure I am. But, and this is a really big BUT, did you know that Malta (population 423,000) has decided to sell citizenships? And once you have a Maltese passport, you have unrestricted entry to any country in the EU!
There’s a catch, albeit not a big enough one. You have to buy a residence worth around £900,000. No, not even a million. And you don’t have to live in the property; just own it. In fact, you never need go near the island; the whole thing can be done by proxy. Of course, that price tag will mean there’ll be no scroungers or benefits’ claimants. Conversely, it’s pretty much an open invitation to Russian gangsters, dodgy sheikhs or African despots. So, all considered, another emphatic triumph for Brussels…
